Elephant Trekking and Circus Performances

The Ringling Bros circus is in town, and it was very strange - as we were coming home after seeing the animal rights documentary, "How I Became an Elephant", an ad for the circus elephants was on the radio. They were talking about "magnificent elephant paintings" and elephant performances in the circus, too. What they failed to mention is that baby elephants are horribly abused in order to be "broken" so they can be "trained"... it's a horrific practice, involving beating them with sticks with metal hooks on the end. They just jab these metal hooks into the hides of these poor baby elephants - it's truly awful.
